Cut out branch and all when small and not important to the tree, or remove nest with care, to prevent destruction. Occasionally abandoned eggs can be found to fill the nests. You may discover (without observing too closely) that a long-watched back-yard nest has been deserted by the mother bird. Or eggs or parts of shells are sometimes found on the ground beneath a nest. which survive all the skin changes and other hazards, to change, in about two months, back into the pupa stage, which also lasts around two months, thus completing the life cycle.
