Activities/Alphabet Antics

Alphabet Antics

Supplies: none

Word games are popular with children because they can display their years of accumulated knowledge. Alphabet Antics requires concentration (which usually lowers the noise level).
Select a broad category such as “animals” or “people.” The first person names an item from that category, such as the ever-popular “dog.” The next person must think of an animal that starts with “C”, the last letter of the stated word. It might go like this:

© Dog
© Goat
© Tabby cat
© Tiger
© Rhinoceros
© Snake

Keep going until you run out of animals. An animal can’t be repeated. Younger children might need you to tell them what letter to use. For older children, use narrower categories like “Flowers” or “States.” They’ll have to think when the word sequence goes like this:

© Dandelion
© Nasturtium
© Marigold
© Daisy
© Yellow daffodil
