Activities/Surprise Story Cards

Surprise Story Cards

This activity can take place over a period of time by simply leaving the supplies available to children. They’ll make new picture cards whenever they have extra time.
Set out old magazines, scissors, and glue. Provide a set of index cards as a base for your picture file. Ask your children to cut out distinct pictures of anything that catches their attention. Glue the pictures of cars, people, animals, and food to each index card. When you have a collection of twenty-live to thirty picture cards, get ready to play the game.
Give each player four or five cards, face down so they can’t see the picture. The first player flips over their first card and begins making up a story, using the item on their card. Whenever she feels like it, she pauses her story and points to another player. That person flips over one of his cards and continues the story, trying to incorporate his picture. Repeat the process until everyone has used his or her cards and the story is so outlandish that it no longer makes sense.
