You might be the CEO of a multi-billion-dollar company, but in your child’s eyes you’re only “Mom” or “Dad.” Even if you hold a more traditional job such as a teacher or store manager, children have trouble seeing their parents in a “professional” light. Try this easy activity to find out what your children really know about you and other family members. Begin by writing everyone s name on a piece of paper. Put the slips in a bag and draw names, keeping the results secret. Each person pantomimes one characteristic of the person they selected. Try to guess who it is. When your eight-year-old pantomimes talking on the phone, it won’t be hard to guess he’s depicting your teenager. It’s interesting to see how children view their parents’ lives. One hard-working architect saw himself in a new light as his daughter pantomimed him sitting with a sketchpad drawing stick figures and eating cookies. After everyone has a turn, toss the names into the bag again to select new names. Do two or three rounds of pantomimes. Take time afterward to clear up any misconceptions!
